EigenLayer is a decentralized protocol built on Ethereum that introduces "restaking," a novel cryptoeconomic mechanism allowing Ethereum validators to reuse their staked ETH or Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs) to secure additional decentralized applications (dApps) and services. This system extends Ethereum’s robust security model to various services, enabling them to benefit from Ethereum’s trust network without the need to build independent security infrastructures.
The EigenLayer ecosystem comprises three key components:

Restakers: Individuals who stake their assets, such as ETH or ERC-20 tokens, into EigenLayer smart contracts, participating in network security and earning rewards.

Operators: Entities that deploy and manage services requiring validation, leveraging the security provided by restakers.

Actively Validated Services (AVSs): Services that require distributed validation, such as oracles, data availability layers, and Layer 2 solutions, benefiting from the pooled security provided by the restaking process.
By enabling restaking, EigenLayer allows Ethereum validators to enhance the security of multiple services simultaneously, increasing the efficiency and scalability of the Ethereum ecosystem. This approach also offers stakers additional opportunities to earn rewards, improving the overall economics of Ethereum's proof-of-stake system.
