Shardeum set to launch mainnet and airdrop SHM tokens on April 13, 2025, promising scalability and decentralization - IcoHolder.

Shardeum, the world’s first Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-based autoscaling blockchain, is preparing to launch its mainnet on April 15, 2025. The protocol has already announced a key event: the airdrop of its native token, SHM, set for April 13. This major development follows Shardeum's successful testnet phases, which included Alphanet "Liberty," Betanet "Sphinx," and the incentivized "Atomium" testnet.

The project’s mainnet launch promises to address the long-standing challenge of the scalability trilemma, a term coined by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. The scalability trilemma describes the difficulty of balancing security, scalability, and decentralization in blockchain networks. Shardeum’s innovative approach offers a solution by enabling autoscaling, meaning the network can handle an increasing number of transactions as more nodes join the system. This ensures that scalability and security can be achieved simultaneously without sacrificing decentralization.

Shardeum's mainnet will be powered by Dynamic State Sharding, a feature designed to break down network workloads into smaller parts, or "shards," allowing transactions to be validated in parallel. This approach not only helps to minimize gas fees but also enhances scalability. The protocol's focus on a decentralized, community-driven model further contributes to its security, allowing virtually anyone to run validator nodes. In preparation for the mainnet launch, Shardeum has been conducting extensive testing, with over 171,000 validators running nodes and more than 81 million transactions processed during its testnet phases. The second phase of the airdrop registration opened on March 22 and will run until April 13, 2025. Those who register before April 14 will receive their SHM tokens on June 13, 2025.
