Xago Technologies was founded in 2016 by Jurgen Kuhnel, Sonya Kuhnel and Mark Chirnside to harness the power of mobile, retail networks and blockchain technology to play a crucial role in transforming the payment industry, particularly in Africa.

Xago receives funding from Imvelo Ventures, a venture capital investment company founded by Capitec Bank and Empowerment Capital Investment Partners. Capitec Bank is one of the biggest banks in South Africa.

January 2021

Xago partners with Bitmama Exchange to send digital ZAR to over 10 African countries.

February 2021

Xago accepted into the Intergovernmental Fintech Work Group (IFWG) to work on crypto regulation in South Africa which includes participation from National Treasury, the Financial Intelligence Centre, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority, the National Credit Regulator, the South African Reserve Bank, the South African Revenue Service and the Competition Commission.
