Dr. Asa Marokus

I am a founding partner of Blockchain Companies, a strategic blockchain-focused seed fund, as well as a part-time private practice psychiatrist and psychotherapist. I completed medical school and training at the University of Colorado, worked in private equity for Hellman & Friedman and investment banking for Goldman Sachs, after graduating from Dartmouth College with honors. After espousing the value of a balanced and fulfilling professional life to my patients over the past decade, I have taken my own advice to heart. I am now dividing my time between two roles that are vastly different, yet complementary and provide an opportunity to apply my varied experience, skills, interests and passions. In 2017, I teamed up with a partner, who is a forward-thinking, early adopter of technology, to establish Blockchain Companies, a strategic fund focused on making seed investments in promising blockchain and crypto projects globally. What began as an exciting curiosity that allowed me to express the actively engaged and dynamic side of myself that has to be deliberately restrained when working with patients, has grown into a unique professional opportunity. Furthermore, I am leaning on the years spent and relationships developed in investment banking at Goldman Sachs in New York and private equity at Hellman & Friedman in San Francisco. I am also continuing my private psychiatric practice, though have scaled back. I have found that nothing professionally compares to the importance and meaning I experience in working with children, teenagers, adults and their families to help them with personal challenges. I employ both psychotherapy and medication to improve the functioning and happiness and alleviate the suffering of my patients. I am a generalist, meaning that I enjoy, and have experience, working with many different types of people on a wide range of issues including struggles with relationships, career, and the vicissitudes of life.
