European Crypto Initiative

European Crypto Initiative

The European Crypto Initiative aims to shape EU regulation to favour open, permissionless, decentralised applications leveraging blockchain technology. We are a group of experts in blockchain technology and more specifically decentralised use-cases, that have come together to constructively contribute to the development of EU policy that ensures a well-informed, appropriate and positive approach to the regulatory treatment of decentralized use cases, open blockchains and permissionless innovation.

Acerca de European Crypto Initiative

The European Crypto Initiative (EUCI) is a Europe-focused organisation aimed at influencing and shaping regulatory frameworks around blockchain and crypto assets within the European Union. Its mission is to advocate for fair, open, and innovation-friendly rules that support permissionless and decentralised technologies while nurturing a competitive environment for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and innovative crypto-asset service providers (CASPs). EUCI positions itself as a specialised voice in the broader debate on digital finance regulation, working to ensure that European legislation on crypto doesn’t stifle technological progress.

EUCI engages in several key activities to fulfil its purpose. It advocates for amendments to European regulation that would benefit the crypto industry and emphasise decentralised use cases. The group also works to cooperate with other industry bodies and stakeholders to broaden its influence and strengthen collective positions when engaging with legislators and regulators. In addition, it seeks to educate policymakers and the wider ecosystem on the trends, opportunities, and challenges presented by blockchain and crypto technologies.

On its site, EUCI publishes news, analyses, and responses to major developments in the EU’s digital financial regulatory landscape. These include commentary on important regulatory packages such as the Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation and discussions on issues like data privacy or blockchain-related infrastructure rules. The organisation also provides resources such as explanatory content on core topics like blockchain, DeFi, NFTs, and Web3 to support broader understanding among stakeholders.

Beyond advocacy and content, EUCI invites organisations and individuals to become members, enabling them to participate more actively in shaping policy positions, network with industry peers, and contribute to collaborative efforts aimed at promoting a balanced regulatory approach. Overall, the European Crypto Initiative serves as a hub for discussion, representation, and influence in Europe’s evolving crypto-regulatory ecosystem.
