Metaplanet Inc. is a Japanese public company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol 3350.T. Since its rebranding in 2024, the company has adopted a strategy of accumulating bitcoin, treating it as a primary reserve asset. Metaplanet currently holds over 7,800 BTC, making it the largest public holder of bitcoin in Asia and one of the ten largest in the world.

The company is actively growing its bitcoin holdings, aiming to reach 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by 2026. To finance these purchases, Metaplanet is using a variety of instruments, including bonds and rights issues.

In addition to its bitcoin strategy, Metaplanet operates a hotel in Tokyo, which is scheduled to be renamed The Bitcoin Hotel and open in the first quarter of 2026. The company also holds an exclusive license to publish Bitcoin Magazine in Japan, helping to spread knowledge and adoption of Bitcoin in the country.

Metaplanet has attracted the attention of Japanese investors due to its strategy of gaining Bitcoin exposure through its shares, an attractive option given the high taxes on direct crypto assets in Japan. The company actively partners with large financial institutions such as SBI Holdings and is a leader in the number of stock purchases through NISA tax accounts.
