About Michael Edesess
MICHAEL EDESESS is an accomplished mathematician and economist with expertise in the finance, energy, and sustainable development fields. He is chief investment strategist of Compendium Finance, advisor to mobile financial planning software company Plynty, adjunct associate professor and visiting faculty in the finance department and the environment and sustainability division at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and a research associate of the Edhec-Risk Institute. In 2007, he authored a book about the investment services industry titled The Big Investment Lie, published by Berrett-Koehler. His book titled The Three Simple Rules of Investing, co-authored with Kwok L. Tsui, Carol Fabbri and George Peacock, was published by Berrett-Koehler in June 2014. He was a co-founder of three companies, including Lockwood Advisors at which he was chief economist until its sale to The Bank of New York in 2002. He has taught university courses in cryptocurrency, emissions trading, energy and environmental economics, international finance, mathematics, and statistics at six universities, has been interviewed on radio and TV, and has written articles for the Wall Street Journal, Advisor Perspectives, the Journal of Portfolio Management, Technology Review, and other publications. Dr. Edesess has also been active in nonprofit organizations. He chaired the board of International Development Enterprises USA, which focuses on rural smallholders in developing countries, and also chaired the board of Rocky Mountain Institute, a prominent energy think tank, and the Rocky Mountain Advisory Board of Environmental Defense. Dr. Edesess holds a bachelor’s degree from MIT and a Ph.D. in pure mathematics from Northwestern University.
