Their goal: to revive the then completely fallow market for start-up financing. In the aftermath of the burst New Economy Bubble, financing in the seed phase came to an almost complete standstill due to the high risks. The focus of the initiative then, as now, was on tech start-ups with significant growth potential, with the decision as to whether the HTGF invests in a start-up or not being made based purely on market criteria.

The success proved the initiators right. In the first year, the HTGF financed 40 high-tech start-ups - that was twice as many financings of this type as there had been in Germany the year before. The HTGF has successfully launched a total of four funds to date, financing 700 companies, of which more than 170 have already been successfully sold or listed on the stock exchange. In addition to the seed investments, a total of around 5 billion euros in private funds flowed into the HTGF portfolio companies through follow-on financing.

The HTGF is the outstanding example of a successful public-private partnership in the start-up ecosystem in Europe. With our funds, their investors and our personal commitment, we contribute significantly to the consistent development of the start-up ecosystem in Germany and throughout Europe.

The HTGF has around 1.4 billion euros under management from the four funds . The proportion of private companies increased from fund to fund. 45 private companies are invested in HTGF IV. Your share in the fund is more than 30 percent. The result: The HTGF can act as flexibly as private funds.

The headquarters of the High-Tech Gründerfonds is Bonn. He has had a branch in Berlin since 2018 and an office in Munich since 2023.
