We’re building a universal store of value.
We believe that everyone’s money should be secure. Billions of people around the world don't have a safe place to store their money. Banks in some countries can't be trusted, and some governments inflate their own currency to pay off debts, hurting citizens in the process.
With a few exceptions (e.g. money laundering, terrorist financing), we believe anyone in the world should be able to transact with anyone else. This requires low-friction, cross-border transactions, which are hard to do with our existing financial systems.
The Reserve project aims to solve both of these problems with a stable, decentralized currency that can’t be abused by a government because it is globally distributed outside of anyone’s control, and thus nearly impossible to shut down.
A fairly unique culture has evolved inside the Reserve team. Here are some things we value:
Team members are straightforwardly driven to build the first digital currency that gets used like real money. This sounds trite, but it's experientially quite different than, say, a group that is participating in an edgy startup narrative, or a group that is "trying to get into crypto." The result of this cultural setup is remarkably low amounts of politicking compared to most companies since you don't need to question a fellow team-member's motives.
Our cultural straightforwardness has wide-ranging consequences. When it makes sense to give harsh direct feedback to one another, we do so. (It's preferable to not beat around the bush.) When it makes sense to relax, joke around, or take naps, we do so. (It's silly to pretend to work hard when one needs to recover.) When it makes sense for senior team members to temporarily pass off management duties and do grunt work, they do so. (We respect one another, so we don’t have to put too much effort into status-signaling.) And so on.
We are obsessed in our own way with our work. This dedication is present because team members are intrinsically motivated and energized by their contribution - whether it's solving fundamental economic puzzles, translating complex incentive systems into code, growing our network of partners to attack the problem together, or preparing Reserve to improve the lives of people in inflationary economies.
Decisions are made using reason and evidence, rather than deferral to authority or persuasive appeals. Members of our team are trying to understand how the world works, and acting from this understanding to make our currency work. Each team member is expected to bring curiosity and epistemic rigor to the table. We like to hire people who crave the truth, even if they occasionally get "nerd-sniped." We think this type of approach is crucial for any project this big; we have an enormous responsibility to get this right, and we have an enormous economic incentive to do so quickly.

Reserve is a global currency and a digital payment system that incorporates a pegged stablecoin aimed at individuals and businesses in countries with high inflation and economic inefficiencies.
The Reserve Protocol interacts with three kinds of tokens:
- The Reserve token (RSV)—a stable cryptocurrency pegged to the US Dollar.
- The Reserve Rights token (RSR)—a cryptocurrency that fluctuates in value, and is also used to facilitate the stability of the Reserve token. RSR holders are also able to vote on governance proposals.
- Collateral tokens—these are assets held in smart contracts and back the value of the Reserve token and the protocol is designed to hold collateral tokens worth at least 100% of the value of all Reserve tokens.
The Reserve Protocol will start off in a centralized manner, and each protocol component will be migrated on-chain with the founding team relinquishing control over time. In addition, the Reserve token will have an initial target value of US $1.00, but in the long term will move away from the US dollar peg and have its value linked to a basket of on-chain and off-chain collateral assets. However, the team are also creating an additional currency pegged to the US Dollar (Reserve Dollar/RSD) that will remain this way.
