About Mathew Kimolo
Currently the Director of Sales, Marketing and Customer Engagement at Powerhive, an Integrated Power Supplier using solar mini grids for generation and Kenya's first private electricity utility. I have led customer acquisition for more than 15 grids. I also designed the first customer loyalty program for an electricity utility in East Africa.
I joined Powerhive from Mobisol GmbH, a global leader in the large solar home systems space with a combined installed capacity of 5MW at the time. I drew Mobisol’s entry strategy for the Kenyan market and managed some key elements of the strategy’s initial implementation including setting up Mobisol’s first regional market hub in Kenya.
Before Mobisol, I had served as the Country Business Director and subsequently CEO of Paradigm Kenya L3C and its successor Klarisse Kenya Limited. I was one of the pioneers in the formation of commercially viable distribution chains for renewable energy consumer goods in Africa. As a result, I was elected the first Private Sector Representative at a Kenyan industry association and selected to be a panelist during the launch of a World Bank industry initiative. I then leveraged the distribution systems and channels that I had set up for renewable energy consumer goods to start fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) distribution, further diversifying the company's revenue streams.
I joined the renewable energy space from the pharmaceutical and medical devices industry where I had risen to the position of Regional Sales Director for East and Central Africa. In this and previous roles, I sold medical equipment and pharmaceuticals to healthcare institutions in Eastern Africa, often structuring tailored lease plans for sale medical equipment to these institutions.
