Metaplanet, a Japanese Bitcoin treasury company, has reported an impressive Bitcoin Yield of 108.3% year-to-date in 2025, further solidifying its position as a major player in the crypto investment space. The announcement, made by CEO Simon Gerovich on April 14, revealed that the company now holds 4,525 BTC, valued at approximately $386.3 million, at an average cost of $85,366 per coin.

This milestone followed Metaplanet’s recent purchase of 319 BTC for around ¥3.78 billion ($26.3 million), with each Bitcoin acquired at an average price of ¥11.85 million ($82,549). The company uses BTC Yield as a key performance metric, which tracks the growth of its Bitcoin holdings relative to its fully diluted share count. The metric has demonstrated impressive growth, surging 309.8% in Q4 2024 and 95.6% in the first quarter of 2025.

Metaplanet’s aggressive accumulation strategy also includes adding 160 BTC to its treasury earlier this month for around $13.4 million. The company has set a bold target of acquiring over 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and ultimately reaching 21,000 BTC by 2026.

To fund its Bitcoin buying spree, Metaplanet has been raising capital through a combination of equity and debt. This includes the issuance of zero-coupon bonds and stock acquisition rights with EVO FUND. Since January, the company has issued 21 million shares across five tranches under its “210 Million Plan.” The most recent rounds of share issuance have raised over ¥35 billion, accounting for about 42% of the planned share issuance.

Metaplanet has also been proactive in managing its debt. It completed early redemptions on several bond tranches, including its 9th Series, which was fully repaid ahead of schedule. The redemption was made possible through proceeds from the exercise of EVO FUND’s stock rights series.

Currently, Metaplanet is the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin in Asia, according to data from Bitcoin Treasuries. Globally, the U.S.-based Strategy remains the largest corporate holder with 528,185 BTC, valued at around $44.5 billion. However, Strategy recently alerted its shareholders that it may need to sell part of its Bitcoin holdings to meet financial obligations if it is unable to raise fresh capital.
