By 2030 there will be over 50 billion IoT devices operating in Smart Cities and Smart Buildings, 80% of which will process data related to security. But how can we make sure critical information from surveillance systems, smoke detectors and leakage sensors and urban infrastructure will be securely registered in the event of a data breach or an accident? The registry of critical events from IoT Information on the HAB Platform reduces investigation time, assists in estimating damage, settles claims more quickly, and ultimately delivers a superior claims experience, further to eliminating expenses with “trust-fees.”

The HAB platform will address all kinds of organisations operating IoT device-to-cloud information systems.

The HAB platform will be used as an additional layer of data management, bringing a blockchain-based third party repository providing two main services:

1. Notarizing critical data sets produced by connected devices in Smart Buildings and Smart City infrastructures;

2. Using this data through smart contracts in business processes.

To design a scalable blockchain architecture, a dual approach is developed, running a dedicated side-chain (the HAB Microchain) and allow the players to log additional data on a standard public blockchain (the Ethereum blockchain) in a dedicated umbrella contract. Thus one could combine a (mostly) sufficient level of trust on the HAB Microchain with stronger guarantees to recover from serious but infrequent breaches of trust (or even crashes).
