Swiss Fintech Innovations (SFTI) is an independent, non-profit association based in Zurich, Switzerland. Founded in 2016, SFTI brings together leading Swiss banks, insurance companies, academic institutions, technology firms, and consulting companies. Its mission is to foster innovation in the Swiss financial sector and establish Switzerland as a global leader in digital finance and open financial ecosystems.
SFTI operates through collaborative working groups focused on critical areas of fintech development. These include open finance, open pensions, standardized APIs, digital identity, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and blockchain technology. One of its most recognized achievements is the Common API initiative, which develops and maintains standardized APIs for use cases such as account information, payment services, pension withdrawals, mortgages, credit cards, and investment services. This promotes interoperability, efficiency, and innovation across financial institutions in Switzerland.
The association also plays a key role in shaping future-oriented strategies through its “Future Finance” working group, which explores trends and challenges facing the financial industry. This includes examining customer empowerment, data sovereignty, new regulatory frameworks, and the growing role of digital assets.
SFTI is deeply committed to collaboration and works closely with Swiss regulators, standard-setting bodies, and international fintech stakeholders. It supports secure data sharing frameworks and the creation of national infrastructure for digital identity and open pension access. Its initiatives are designed to balance innovation with regulatory compliance and consumer trust.
By organizing industry events, publishing research, and facilitating networking among financial professionals, SFTI serves as a neutral platform for dialogue and co-creation. The association also contributes to recognizing innovation in the sector through involvement in the Swiss Fintech Awards.
