Mina Protocol is a lightweight, layer‑one blockchain designed to deliver true decentralization, privacy, and scalability in one compact package. Unlike legacy blockchains that grow ever larger and require heavy hardware, Mina keeps its chain size constant — only about 22 KB — allowing anyone to run a full node and verify the entire network from a smartphone or browser.

At Mina’s core lies a cryptographic technology using recursive zero‑knowledge proofs (zk‑SNARKs). Instead of downloading and validating every transaction since the genesis, participants verify a succinct proof that represents the entire chain state. That “proof of everything” approach dramatically reduces resource requirements while preserving security and decentralization.

Mina supports programmable, privacy‑focused smart contracts called zkApps. Consensus on the Mina network is achieved via a specialized Proof‑of‑Stake mechanism, Ouroboros Samasika, which enables secure block production while maintaining Mina’s succinct architecture and decentralization.
