Metaverses and democracy up to debate in the fourth edition of Democracy4All

27 mai 2022 RETOUR AUX COMMUNIQUÉS DE PRESSE

The international event Democracy4All (or D4A), which has been held annually since 2019, returns to Barcelona for its fourth edition in a hybrid format, offering both online and on-site experience, after the success of this model on its previous edition.

Democracy4All's orientation makes it a unique event in the world, as it focuses on the use of blockchain as an instrument of democratic improvement in terms of social, corporate and individual governance. It offers Catalonia the opportunity to host the most important international conclave for political actors and institutions everywhere, and contributes to speeding up the dialogue between government bodies and new technologies.

Democracy4All brings together talent, experts and policymakers to share and discuss the latest advances in technology and regulation. The backbone of the event relies on the 12 Principles of Good Democratic Governance set by the Council of Europe, which encapsulate fundamental values defining a common vision of democratic governance in Europe (see the 12 principles here).

The list of speakers will be revealed shortly by the organization. The event was attended by top-level personalities from the fields of technology and politics, such as John McAffee, founder of McAffee, John Denton, Secretary General of the ICC, Helen Köpman, acting Head of Unit Digital Innovation and Blockchain at the European Commission, Toomas Hendrik, former president of Estonia or Jordi Puigneró, vice-president of the Catalan Government.

One of the hot topics of D4A 2022 will be, unsurprisingly, metaverses, which will have a dedicated stage all to itself. "The metaverse boom has only started; we are now CBCat - Centre Blockchain de Catalunya | info@cbcat.io | www.cbcat.io acknowledging the importance of these new realities, and the impact they will have in the upcoming years", claims Vasilisa Marinchuk, director of the event. "As exciting as it may sound, there is, however, a lot of work to be done in terms of regulation, governance and democracy. It is like arriving to a new world, and setting the ground rules almost from scratch. I am certain that Democracy4All, and its participants, will have an important role in this regard".

Many other activities are planned for the two days that the event lasts, including several hybrid round tables which will cover many topics to be held in various sessions, where participants and representatives from all around the world will have the opportunity to raise their voice. The objective is to offer a wide variety of topics -always related to the techno-political space- so that any entity, firm or association willing to participate can find their place in the discussion. Besides that, Democracy4All will also offer start-up pitchings, a digital art exhibition, post-event cocktail and networking areas, and a gala dinner.
