Spectiv’s team has created the Signal Token protocol specifically for use within Spectiv, their virtual reality video sharing platform. That platform will provide a real world example of how the Signal Token protocol can be used to incentivize media viewing, sharing, and curation.
Despite occasionally stalling, VR is definitely one of current hot topics. Spectiv deserve extra praise for not trying to ride the VR-hype for a quick cash-grab by cloning YouTube or Twitch. Instead, Spectiv offers a new perspective of content (primarily targeting regular users) and a monetization model (Signal Token Protocol), that allow not only content creators to benefit, but also those who aid in its distribution (Curators) among subscribers.
The project has an alpha announced currently. Beta should arrive in Q1 2018, with official launch of the service planned for Q3 2018. The team currently counts around 10 employees with 3 advisors. In order to handle a project of this scale with the announced deadline, Spectiv may need to look towards aggressive hiring (and adaptation) of new team members. They are definitely operating on a very tight schedule and failing the deadline at least once seems very likely.
Another point of Spectiv’s strategy that we might argue with is their betting on a broad spectrum of VR-content. Google and Facebook might not keep idly watching the newcomer’s success for long, and the new monetization model might not end up working in practice. Even so, we recommend that you keep an eye on this very exciting and original project.
