Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system. It is the first decentralized digital currency, as the system works without a central bank or single administrator. When you dig into the details of Bitcoin, it’s almost an unbelievable tale about how to create money. Although it seems like fiction, it’s actually the best-known version of digital currency in use today. Before we go any further it should be reiterated that investing in cryptocoins or tokens is highly speculative and the market is largely unregulated.
Bitcoin was the first established cryptocurrency—a digital asset that is secured with cryptography and can be exchanged like currency. Other versions of cryptocurrency had been launched but never fully developed when Bitcoin became available to the public in 2009. In 2010, someone decided to sell their Bitcoins for the first time to purchase two pizzas for 10,000 Bitcoins, we hope the pizza was good, because if that person would have held onto those Bitcoins, they would be worth more than USD 100 million today. There is not a government, financial institution or any other authority that controls Bitcoins (BTC), so it’s decentralized. The owners who have Bitcoins in the system are anonymous—there are no account numbers, names, social security numbers or any other identifying features that connect Bitcoins to its owners. Bitcoin uses blockchain technology and encryption keys to connect buyers and sellers. And, just like diamonds or gold, a Bitcoin gets “mined.”
The main reason why people should embrace Bitcoins is because unlike the fiat currencies (ZAR,USD,BWP,GBP,INR etc) the Cryptocurrency does not undergo inflation but deflates,e.g in 1998, R300 could fill a trolley with groceries, but in 2017 could be buy only a handful of basic commodities, in contrast a Bitcoin in 2011 could buy the equivalent of a handful of basic commodities, in 2017 the Bitcoin could buy a lot of stock in the shop, as it had grown to around R180 000-200 000 from the R300 it was worth in 2011.
It is not too late to be part of the Bitcoin revolution according to the The Economy Forecast Agency (EFA) which specialises on long-range financial market forecasts for corporate clients, EFA uses reliable models for long-term forecasting crude oil prices and precious metals prices, FX rates, interbank interest rates, stock indices and some other macroeconomic indicators. The EFA predicts the Bitcoin to be at USD 18000 by the year end(2018). Other analysts (refer to CNBC) predict the price of Bitcoin to be way over the USD 18000, as it reached USD 19000 in 2017 already, others are speculating as much as USD 100 000.
