CoArt lowers the barriers to entry for retail investors to invest in art assets using co-investment through fractionization and tokenization. Currently, investment in high-end artworks (valued at $1 million and above) is a prohibitively high amount such that only wealthy collectors, family offices, financial institutions, and hedge funds can afford to do so. CoArt proposes an “economic-technical” mechanism using blockchain technology that lowers the barriers to entry for retail investors who have an interest in investing in art or expanding their current art collection, but at lower capital entry requirements. We also aim to solve the provenance problem and the illiquidity problem of artworks through our proposed mechanism.
