Cerium is a chemical element with symbol Ce and atomic number 58. It is a soft, silvery, ductile metal which easily oxidizes in air. Cerium was named after the dwarf planet Ceres. Cerium is the most abundant of the rare earth elements, making up about 0.0046% of the Earth's crust by weight. It is found in a number of minerals, the most important being monazite and bastnäsite. Commercial applications of cerium are numerous. They include catalysts, additives to fuel to reduce emissions and to glass and enamels to change their color. Cerium oxide is an important component of glass polishing powders and phosphors used in screens and fluorescent lamps. It is also used in the "flint" (actually ferrocerium) of lighters.
Like the rare earth element it is named after, the Cerium crypto currency is small in supply and aims to be a something the world depends on. Cerium hopes to introduce an efficient payment method which will eventually be adopted by the masses.
Coin development
Cerium initially went down a route of creating a miners fund which paid out a return in cerium to those who held CMF assets. Unfortunately after some members of the original team left the project they also took some of thier contributions, the biggest of which was the cerium.info site which had ways to trade XCE/CMF. If you held these assets you are entitled to participate in a swap led by incognitoworker for his XQN project.
Currently a rebuild is taking place, I have some fresh ideas that i want to carry out with the coin. I'm in talks with someone about adding cerium to a multipool and developing a mobile wallet. At the end of the day the aim with cerium is to become a widely adopted payment method and i will be releasing a whitepaper on my vision for cerium. I'm looking for people who would like to become part of the Cerium team as currently its just me and I can't achieve everything i hope to on my own. My next step is to recreate the cerium website and the social channels. I will be uploading a bounty list in the coming days too.
