Sony Singapore has made a significant move by announcing that it will begin accepting payments in the stablecoin USDC, facilitated through Crypto.com’s payment platform. Starting April 2, at 11:00 SST, customers in Singapore can use USDC to pay for Sony Electronic products on the company’s online store. This integration marks Sony Electronics Singapore as the first consumer electronics brand in the country to adopt stablecoin payments via Crypto.com Pay, a solution that allows instant crypto transactions with no network fees.

The decision to accept USDC reflects Sony Singapore’s commitment to driving the adoption of cryptocurrencies in the region. According to an official press release, the company plans to expand the range of accepted crypto assets in the future, further promoting the use of digital currencies in the consumer market. By partnering with Crypto.com, Sony aims to offer its customers a seamless and accessible payment method while contributing to the growing crypto landscape in Singapore.

Chin Tah Ang, General Manager of Crypto.com in Singapore, highlighted that this partnership aligns with the company’s broader goal of making crypto payments mainstream. “We’re pushing to make paying in crypto more mainstream, and partnering with a well-established and forward-thinking brand like Sony Electronics Singapore further raises awareness of how simple it can be to pay for everyday goods and services using crypto,” said Ang.

USDC, the stablecoin issued by Circle, is currently the second-largest stablecoin by market capitalization, with $60 billion in circulation. It continues to gain traction as a reliable digital asset for transactions, particularly for its stability compared to other volatile cryptocurrencies.

To incentivize customers to use USDC, Sony Singapore is offering two promotional programs for Crypto.com users. The first 50 customers to spend at least 300 SGD ($223) worth of USDC will receive a free LinkBuds Speaker, valued at 299 SGD. Additionally, the first 150 customers to spend 100 SGD ($74) will receive 20 USDC in their Crypto.com account. Customers who spend 300 SGD can benefit from both offers.

This move follows in the footsteps of other businesses in Singapore, such as Metro, which last February began accepting stablecoin payments both in-store and online. Sony’s acceptance of USDC further reinforces the growing trend of crypto adoption in Singapore, a nation positioning itself as a leader in the integration of digital assets into everyday commerce.
