Speakers:
Allen Lau is the CEO and co-founder of Wattpad, the global multiplatform entertainment company, where he leads the company’s vision to entertain and connect the world through stories. A leader in Canada’s technology sector and startup ecosystem, Allen is a member of the Canadian Council of Innovators, a lobby group that advances the interests of Canadian technology companies at all levels of government. He is also the co-founder of Two Small Fish Ventures, a fund that invests in Toronto and Waterloo-based early stage internet companies with strong network effects. Prior to Wattpad, Allen co-founded FeedM8, a mobile advertising company that was later acquired. He also previously co-founded Tira Wireless, where he helped leading brands optimize content for mobile delivery. Allen received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Toronto’s Electrical Engineering program.
Mike Silagadze is the CEO and co-founder of Top Hat. Under Silagadze’s leadership and vision, Top Hat has become the market leader in student engagement software, and is used by millions of students at three-quarters of the top 1,000 colleges and universities in North America. Silagadze is an active speaker and lecturer in the higher education, technology and startup communities, having lectured at the Rotman Commerce Entrepreneurship Organization, the ASU GSV Summit, MaRS, Tech Fest Toronto, SAAS North and TEDxLaurierUniversity, among many others. Silagadze holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
Matei Olaru is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lift & Co., a data-driven cannabis media and technology company. Under his leadership, Lift & Co. has become the world’s leading review platform of federally-legal cannabis products, raised $13-million and gone public under the ticker symbol TSXV:LIFT, tripled its team, and launched several key products that empower the cannabis industry to make better-informed decisions through superior information and connections. A corporate lawyer and consultant by trade, Matei previously helped advise international governments on business and investment policy with the World Bank in Washington, D.C. and practiced law in Toronto with a focus on cannabis and corporate matters. As CEO of Lift & Co., Matei regularly appears on BNN, CP24 and CBC, and has commented on stories in Forbes, Financial Post, Toronto Star and Maclean’s.
Menashe Kestenbaum is the CEO & Founder of Enthusiast Gaming. Menashe began his career in video games when he was 13, writing for IGN, a large gaming media site, where he eventually became a community leader. After studying and subsequently lecturing in the Institute of Advanced Talmudic Law in Jerusalem for eight years, Menashe returned to his passion for the video game industry and launched his first gaming blog, “Nintendo Enthusiast”, in 2011. In 2014, he returned to Toronto and incorporated Enthusiast. He has personally owned and operated gaming websites to a readership of over 2 million gamers, and has led Enthusiast and grown a writing and community staff team of over 84 people.
Dani Lipkin carries the role of Innovation Sector Head for Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV). In this capacity, he is responsible for working with private companies and their shareholders as they explore and consider the optionof raising equity capital in Canada. Prior to this role, Dani was the Head of Business Development for Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and Investment Funds on TSX. He had also worked with the listings group for TSX, where he helped assist companies in going public. Dani holds a Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies in Finance from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA from the University of Toronto.
Justin Hartzman is the Co-Founder and CEO of Coinsmart. A seasoned business leader and entrepreneur, Justin’s passion for innovation has seen him lead numerous companies from start-up to successful exit. His proven track record of entrepreneurial success includes founding the first website brokerage exclusively serving online businesses, pioneering the industry and achieving over $100M in transactions to Fortune 1000 companies, PE firms, family offices and venture funds. He has also led multiple fundraising rounds working with Canadian and U.S. Angel Investors and VCs. In addition to leading CoinSmart, Justin is also co-founder of Needls, an Ontario-based company that uses Data Science to automate social media advertising processes for small to medium enterprises worldwide.
Peter Kieltyka is the chief architect behind Horizon. Having co-founded both NuLayer and Pressly, he's passionate about creating awesome teams and powerful products. A lifelong gamer, coder, and an open source and decentralized evangelist, Pete's committed to building a better world. His favourite game is Quake III Arena.
Soumak Chatterjee leads Deloitte’s payments and blockchain team in Canada. He is focused on assisting clients drive business value through new disruptive products, services and partnerships leveraging his deep expertise at the intersection of innovation, business and technology from strategy to execution. As the leader of Deloitte’s Canadian blockchain team, Soumak assists clients across industries understand and apply distributed ledger technology concepts to their business models, technology infrastructure and operating processes. He has deep experience leading executive sessions and has led multiple blockchain based projects, strategy to technology prototyping, in specific financial services verticals like trade finance & payments, globally and in Canada. He co-leads Deloitte’s “Disruptive Innovation in Financial Services” project team with the World Economic Forum (WEF) and is a published author and speaker on the topic of Blockchain.
Aliza Lakhani is CEO and Dean of Northeastern University Toronto. Headquartered in Boston and ranked Top 40 by US News, Northeastern University is a leader in experiential education and lifelong learning. Toronto is Northeastern’s first international campus, and part of the network of campuses across North America - other physical campuses include Silicon Valley, Seattle and Charlotte. Most recently, Aliza was head of Business Development and International at The DMZ at Ryerson University, the #1 ranked university tech incubator in the world. Under Aliza’s direction, the DMZ tripled annual revenue through corporate partnerships with Fortune 500 companies and expanded into global markets, including opening an office in New York City. While at the DMZ, she also advised a number of startups on enterprise sales and commercialization opportunities. Aliza spent more than a decade in Financial Services in Canada and the U.S., including several years at the Bank of Montreal in progressively senior roles. At BMO, Aliza built strategic capacity, generated new revenue streams, expanded into international markets and executed large scale transformations. She started her career on the trading floor at RBC Capital Markets and JP Morgan in Toronto and New York where she covered Canada’s largest institutional clients.

Alexia Hefti is a Swiss-Canadian, New York-qualified blockchain & cryptocurrency lawyer who is the Blockchain Tax Lead at Deloitte. She co-founded the blockchain and crypto tax advisory practice assisting blockchain companies structure their blockchain operations and Initial Coin Offerings. Alexia also collaborates with civil society and government bodies to create pro-blockchain regulatory in emerging markets, and advises the Nordic Token Alliance on global regulation. Alexia volunteers with a coding academy in Africa to create opportunities for young female coders as a means of helping them create sustainable economic livelihoods. Alexia has worked with several governments, the UN and international organisations.
Nick Pateras is Vice President of Strategy at Lift & Co. (TSXV: LIFT), Canada's leading cannabis media and technology platform. Lift & Co.’s mission is to empower better cannabis decisions by bridging the informational gap between buyers and sellers. Prior to joining Lift & Co., Nick spent several years in the pharmaceutical sector with Johnson & Johnson Inc. Rob Richards is a high-tech operations veteran with over 25 years of senior management experience in IT, telecom, aerospace, and enterprise software-as-a-service (SaaS). As Chief Operating Officer of one of the first SaaS companies in Canada, Rob helped pioneer the software subscription model and managed the company through its NASDAQ IPO. Since then, he has acted as an early advisor and interim CEO for several start-ups, managing private placements and growth activity. Today, Rob is co-founder of Plaza Ventures, a Toronto-based growth-stage tech VC. Well versed in marketing, sales, R&D and commercialization, Rob serves as PV’s strategy and operations specialist overseeing branding, growth plans and day-to-day operations. Genevieve Roch-Decter is the founder & CEO of Grit Capital a capital market advisory firm started in 2016. Saif Altimimi is CEO and Co-Founder at ChefHero, a digital platform in the food service industry that connects restaurants and kitchens with all their suppliers, all in the palm of your hand. Previously he founded a popular education tech company called NoteWagon that aired on CBC’s Dragons Den. He also sold a company to Intel while living in San Francisco for a few years.
Jai Waterman is CoFounder and CTO of Blockstation, a digital asset trading platform provider to international stock exchanges. He is a serial entrepreneur with 18 years in the technology industry. His expertise includes leadership of software development, enterprise architecture, and research and development. Previously Jai founded CloudDunk, an ERP Cloud company with customers across 12 industries, where he also invented Cross Company Automation to automate internal and external processes across multiple independent organizations. The allure of expediting bitcoin and digital currency adoption by traditional stock exchanges and financial institutions attracted Jai to create Blockstation in 2014. He has assembled and manages a talented development team that has successful deployed Blockstation’s trading platform and suite of products. Jack J. Bensimon is Regulatory Compliance Advisor at Blockstation. He is a seasoned international securities compliance advisor, banking professional and AML specialist. He is a Managing Partner of Black Swan Diagnostics, an international regulatory compliance firm and BlockRake LLC, a Wyoming-based capital markets advisory firm. Previously he was CEO/Board Director of Epcylon Technologies. Jack has a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Toronto, and a General LLM and Securities Law LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.
Richard Carleton has been CEO of the Canadian Securities Exchange for seven years. Prior to this appointment, Richard served as Vice-President Corporate Development with responsibility for the CSE’s technology, operations, market data and trading sales teams. Before joining the exchange, Richard worked as a business development consultant in Toronto and New York in the risk management and index product fields after spending twelve years with the Toronto Stock Exchange, serving most recently as a member of the exchange’s senior management team. Active in industry affairs, Richard served two terms as chair of the market data industry’s global trade association in the late 1990's and is a frequent panelist at market structure and trading technology events across North America. Richard also serves as a member of the boards of the Private Capital Markets Association and the Empire Club of Canada. A member of the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1987, Richard is a graduate of the University of Ottawa (B.A. ’81) and the University of Toronto (LL.B. ’85). He has also completed the executive development programme at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Jordan Anderson is a sales professional and growth marketer with 10+ years’ experience. Currently, he is a partner and the VP of sales and marketing at Bitbuy, the online digital currency platform. This year, Jordan has spearheaded efforts to grow the business to 25K+ registrations and $30 MM+ in sales. Chris Housser was a lawyer in downtown Toronto for 4 years. He became fascinated with the blockchain space in 2013, at approximately the same time as he started his legal career. Chris advised and assisted many blockchain projects over the years and left the practice of law in early 2017. Polymath is a natural fit to merge his blockchain and legal knowledge. Before law, Chris was an infantry soldier in the Canadian Forces including 6 months at forward operating bases in Afghanistan in 2007.
Adam Reeds spent the past ten years developing and investing in energy infrastructure, with a focus on wind and solar projects in North America and Europe.
