Despite recent declines in both, there is no correlation between markets. The S&amp;P and Dow continue to trade in negative territory year to date, while the Nasdaq is up only 1% despite a sharp rally at the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_the_Bearish_Trend_in_Stock_Markets_Aiding_the_Crypto_Market_Selloff\"><\/span>Is the Bearish Trend in Stock Markets Aiding the Crypto Market Selloff?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Crypto markets have different market dynamics than stock markets. Crypto coins generally move on market speculations and sentiments; the SEC&#8217;s role and traders&#8217; sentiments towards new legislation and infrastructural improvement in blockchain technologies historically played a key role in deviating prices.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"subtitle-link\" href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coinmarketcap.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Crypto markets were stable and steady since the beginning of September to mid-October; the overall market cap was around $210 billion during the past two months. Traders were expecting the market to rally. This is because Bloomberg and several other <a href=\"https:\/\/born2invest.com\/articles\/institutional-investors-finally-step-into-cryptocurrency-market\/\">reports<\/a> indicated that institutional investors are finally buying crypto coins.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Allaire, the chief executive officer of Boston-based Circle Internet Financial had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-10-01\/institutional-investors-are-using-back-door-for-crypto-purchases\">said<\/a>, \u201c<em>We\u2019ve seen triple-digit growth enrolling in our OTC business. That\u2019s a big growth area<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bobby Cho, global head of trading at Cumberland believe improving trading environment in cryptocurrency exchanges are adding to institutional investor\u2019s confidence. \u201c<em>What that\u2019s showing you is the professionalization that\u2019s happening across the board in this space<\/em>,\u201d Cho said. \u201c<em>The Wild West days of crypto are really turning the corner.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The surprise crash in crypto markets is associated with controversy related to Bitcoin Cash&#8217;s hard fork. The SEC&#8217;s announcement of a crackdown on crypto exchanges and illegal activates had also impacted trading volumes.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin is trading around the $4,300 level after the latest selloff while the total crypto market plunged to $137 billion for the first time since last October.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"There_is_No_Correlation_between_both_Markets\"><\/span>There is No Correlation between both Markets<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">The level of correlation between stock and crypto markets appears minimal. In fact, there is no<a href=\"https:\/\/icoholder.com\/blog\/how-layer-2-scaling-solutions-are-making-crypto-transactions-faster-and-cheaper\/\"> correlation between<\/a> markets due to their different trading environments and business prospects.
