It\u2019s a positive spiel on cryptocurrency, presenting it as something to be embraced with a bright future in commerce. The piece also highlights Vegas\u2019 embrace of bitcoin, noting that you can use it to pay for \u201chotel rooms, eat out and more.\u201d That sounds appealing for cryptocurrency enthusiasts. However, there is a big asterisk: \u201cone exception is at the casinos, where only US currency is accepted for gambling.\u201d This is a clear sign of ongoing cryptocurrency gambling regulatory challenges.<\/p>\n<p>As it is Las Vegas, that exception is quite a significant one. Not everyone goes to Las Vegas to gamble, but it\u2019s obviously a high priority for many of the visitors. Will it turn of budding cryptocurrency gamblers from visiting Sin City? Probably not. However, Las Vegas\u2019 reluctance to accept bitcoin \u2013 or any other cryptocurrency \u2013 is perhaps emblematic of a wider truth. Namely, that cryptocurrency gaming has yet to hit the mainstream.<\/p>\n<p>The term \u201cmainstream\u201d can be misleading, however. We do not intend to besmirch Curacao or operators working solely with a licence from there. However, its oversight, laws, and protections are not as stringent as those of major regulators. In fact, some operators aim for a Curacao licence because it is easy to get one. This is a direct consequence of ongoing cryptocurrency gambling regulatory challenges.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cryptocurrency_platforms_flock_to_Curacao\"><\/span>Cryptocurrency platforms flock to Curacao<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Again, we should stress that it\u2019s perfectly possible to find a trustworthy casino with a licence from Curacao. But it feels like they prove their trustworthiness <em>after <\/em>receiving a licence. With the major regulators, it\u2019s the other way around;\u00a0 operators must demonstrate that they adhere to robust standards and protections <em>before<\/em> receiving that licence.<\/p>\n<p>So, where does this leave us with cryptocurrency gambling? If we were to try to predict the outcome, we would say that, yes, eventually there will be mainstream licences awarded for cryptocurrency gambling sites. However, that might be a long time away \u2013 several years at least. When you hear Donald Trump Steve Mnuchin, Justin Trudeau, as well as other voices that matter, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/billybambrough\/2020\/02\/16\/blow-to-bitcoin-as-significant-us-crackdown-suddenly-revealed\/?sh=2b2d66561191\">sound cool on cryptocurrency as a whole<\/a>, then that is going to filter down to the regulators at state and national level.
